We at team Philomena believe in the importance of gifting part of our time to create projects that may bring light and inspiration to those that need it most. This is why we created Project Alba. “Alba”, which means first light before dawn, was made for the purpose of creating a space for creativity and color for the cancer patients and their families who come from the provinces to Lima for treatment. Every Wednesday, we embroider with them while they wait for their appointments at the Frida Heller shelter. We give them materials drawing options so that they can let their creativity loose and occupy their minds with something other than their disease. For us it is a gift to hear them say that, while they embroider, they forget about their condition.
