Philomena arrives at El Corte Inglés store
Philomena, the Peruvian brand specialized in the handcrafted production of unique pieces and working with high Andean communities in Peru, will present a limited edition of alpaca ruanas and ponchos at the exclusive store in Serrano Street (Madrid) of El Corte Inglés, European leader in the department store format.
“Now we have this first limited edition of ten models from our catalog, which has a total of 35 to 40 models.
The idea is to grow – in a sustainable way and maintaining our essence – and that we can enter more stores in the chain to continue generating work for more Peruvians,” says Micaela Llosa, the Peruvian businesswoman and designer who created the national brand.
Philomena’s pieces are well received for their versatility, particularly its collection of ponchos and ruanas, which are timeless and unisex, made with the ancient technique of pedal loom in the Peruvian communities of Puno and Huancayo, which combine their ancestral technique with avant-garde designs. Llosa says that there are around 30 artisans from these communities who make the brand’s pieces.
“We buy the fiber, send it to the communities and there the artisans work with the pedal loom. They send the garments to Lima, we check them, pack them and send them to different parts of the world,” he says.
